The following communication which had been received
from His Excellency, Governor Swann, was read:
STATE OF MARYLAND,
EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT,
Annapolis, January 12th, 1866.
To the Senate:
Gentlemen: I nominate for your advice and consent John
M. Carter, of fialtimore city, for Secretary of State.

On motion of Mr. Ohr, the Senate advised and consented
to the above nomination.
On motion of Mr. McMaster,
The Senate resumed the consideration of the legislative
business.
