28            VOTES and PROCEEDINGS, November, 1799.

A bill, entitled, An act to open a road from the turnpike road leading towards Hanover, at or
near the widow Mortar's tavern, to intersect the York turnpike road at or near Benedict Hurst's
tavern, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates, December 24, 1799:  Read the first time
" and ordered to lie on the table.

" By the house of delegates, December 26, 1799:  Read the second time and will pass.

A bill, entitled, An act to authorise and empower the levy court of Anne-Arundel county to assess
and levy a sum of money for the support of Elizabeth Tyers, thus endorsed; " By the house 
" of delegates, December 24, 1799:  Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, December 24, 1799.
    RESOLVED, That the governor and council be and they are hereby authorised and empowered
to take the petition of James Steele, and others, of Cæcil county, into their consideration, and
after examining the testimony and facts relating to the same, to make report thereof to the next
session of assembly, with such relief, if any, as their case merits.
    RESOLVED, That no execution issue on the bonds heretofore executed by James Steele, James
Nesbitt, Hugh Lyon, John Lyon, John Patterson and John Sterrett, and Robert Nesbitt, of
Cæcil county, to the state of Maryland, for the purchase of a tract of land called The Widow's
Lot, lying in Susquehanna, alias New Connaught, Manor, in Cæcil county.

    The bill, entitled, An act to establish the salaries of the judges of the court of appeals, was
read the second time by especial order and will pass.
    The bill, entitled, An act to regulate public ferries, with the amendments thereto, the bill
next before mentioned, the resolution in favour of Charles Mankin, the resolution in favour of
Francis Dawes and William Copeland Gouldsmith, and the resolution in favour of Gassaway
Watkins, were sent to the house of delegates by the clerk.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate, a bill, entitled, An act
to empower the justices of the levy court of Harford county to assess and levy a sum of money
for the purpose therein mentioned, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates, December 14,
" 1799:  Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

" By the house of delegates, December 26, 1799:  Read the second time and will pass.

A bill, entitled, A further supplement to the act respecting the settlers on the reserved lands

road leading from John Neale's to John Coxe's, in Harford county, a bill, entitled, An act to
lay out certain roads from Andrew Gore and James Cooper's mill, in Baltimore county, severally
thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates, December 24, 1799:  Read the first time and ordered
" to lie on the table.

A bill, entitled, An act to lay out and open a road in Cæcil county from Archibald Dysart's towards
Hugh Ramsay's tavern, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates, December 26, 1799:

" By the house of delegates, December 26, 1799:  Read the second time by especial order and
" will pass.

And also the following resolution:
By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, December 26, 1799.
    RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised and required
to pay to the adjutant-general of this state for the time being the sum of six hundred
dollars, and no more, in quarterly payments, as his salary for the year on thousand eight hundred,
provided the adjutant-general reside or keep an office at the seat of government.

    The bill, entitled, An act to aid and revive the proceedings of the court of appeals, was read
