deceased, on the eighteenth day of January, one thousand seven hundred and ninety-nine, as stated in the
petition of Rachel Shipley, his widow and administratrix, and if, upon said examination of all the circumstances,
the chancellor shall be of opinion, that the said warrant has not been duly executed, and the certificate thereon
duly received in the land-office, owing to a collution between the counter petitioner, William Alexander, or
John Guyer, in whose name the warrants, (the benefit of which is claimed by the said Alexander,) were taken
out, or any other person or persons whatever who are now or have been interested in both or either of the said
warrants, or the surveys made thereon, or of any person on behalf of them, or any of them, and of the principal
surveyor of Anne-Arundel county, that in such case he shall direct the register of the land-office to receive into 
his said office the certificate aforesaid, which has been hitherto presented to the said register on the seventh day
of February last, and, (if the same shall be received,) the chancellor shall then give to said certificate all the 
force, validity and effect, which it would have been entitled to, if the surveyor of Anne-Arundel county had regularly
discharged his duty, touching the warrant so as aforesaid issued to the said Talbot Shipley, and the certificate
for the same.

    Resolved, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby directed to take the bond of Martha
Howard, with approved security, for the amount of the debt due to the state of maryland from the late Benjamin
Howard, to be ascertained by the auditor, payable in five annual payments, with interest.

    Whereas it is represented to this general assembly, that negro Simon, the slave of a certain James Hodges, of
Kent county, was convicted of murder at a court of oyer and terminer and gaol delivery held for Baltimore
county, at the court-house in said county, in July, eighteen hundred, and was sentenced to be hanged, which
said sentence was commuted to banishment out of the United States, and that the said slave was valued by the 
said court to the sum of ninety pounds current money; therefore, Resolved, That the treasurer of the western
shore pay to the said James Hodges, or order, the sum of ninety pounds current money, the valuation of the
said negro slave Simon.

    Resolved, That the treasurer of the western shore be authorised and directed to pay unto William Kilty,
out of any unappropriated monies that may be in the treasury, four thousand dollars, after the first day of January
next, in full for his services in compiling his edition of the laws of Maryland.

    Resolved, That Tuesday, the ninth instant, be appointed to choose a senator to represent this state in the
senate of the United States, who shall be a resident of the eastern shore, and that the person having the greatest
number of votes be declared to be duly elected to represent this state in the senate of the United States for the
remainder of the term for which James Lloyd, Esquire, was elected, and that a commission issue to the said
senator appointed as aforesaid, signed by the governor for the time being, or in his absence by the presiding
member of the council, in the following words, to wit:  To --------.  The legislature of Maryland, reposing
especial confidence in your integrity and abilities, hath appointed you senator to represent this state in the senate
of the United States for the remainder of the term for which James Lloyd, Esquire, was elected, agreeably to
the constitution of the United States.  Given under my hand, and the seal of this state, anno domini ----.


   Resolved, That Frederick Green, printer to the state, be directed to print, with the laws of this session, the
act of congress, entitled, An act to establish an uniform system of bankruptcy throughout the United States.

    Resolved, that the governor and council be and they are hereby authorised and requested to direct the surveyor
of Cæcil county to survey, at the expence of George Gale, of said county, all that tract or parcel of land,
being part of new Connaught manor, lying in Cæcil county aforesaid, which was purchased by a certain John
Ryan, of said county, of Daniel of Saint Thomas Jenifer, then intendant of the revenue of the state of Maryland,
and by the said John Ryan conveyed to the said George Gale, by a deed executed on the first day of 
December, in the year of our Lord seventeen hundred and ninety-five; and that the chancellor of the state be
and he is hereby authorised and requested, on certificate of survey being returned to the land-office of the western
shore by the said George Gale, and the sum of eight shillings and nine-pence per acre, with interest thereon from
the time it was sold by the said intendant, being paid into the treasury for the tract aforesaid, to issue patent to
the said George Gale for the same.

    Whereas it has been represented to this present general assembly, that Francis Ware, (who heretofore commanded
the troops of this state, then the colony of Maryland, with distinguished bravery and fidelity, and who,
during the late revolutionary war, was lieutenant-colonel of the first regiment raised by this state, from which
service he was compelled to retire by the infirmities peculiarly incident to a military life in these climates,) has,
by reason of his said infirm health, and misfortunes arising from those acts of benevolence which the duties of
society often render indispensible, and not by imprudence or want of due economy, become reduced to extreme
indigence in his advanced age; and it being unworthy, (both in example and principle,) of the citizens of a free
