CHAP. XXXVI.

An ACT for the relief
of Henry King and Philip Stover.
WHEREAS Henry King, of Somerset county, and Philip Stover, of Frederick
county, have
emigrated to, and settled in this state, and since their emigration
and settlement in this state
have acquired real property therein, and their titles to such property,
from their not having become
naturalized before such property was acquired by them, may be called
in question, to their great injury
and detriment; therefore,
II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the title to all the real property,
lawfully and fairly acquired by the aforesaid persons, or either of
them, whether such title be derived
by grant, gift, purchase or devise, be and the same is hereby as amply
and as fully vested in
the persons aforesaid, to all intents and purposes, as if they had
respectively been naturalized before
their titles to such real property had been acquired; provided always,
that nothing in this act contained
shall in any manner defeat or affect any right, title or claim, to
the said property, or any part
thereof, acquired or prosecuted by any person or persons whatever before
the passage of this act;
and provided also, that unless the said Henry King and Philip Stover
shall respectively, on or before
the first day of June next, proceed according to law to make themselves
citizens of the United States,
this act shall have no effect to confirm their titles to the property
above mentioned, nor shall they,
or any person claiming under them, or either of them, derive any benefit
under this act; but if the
said Henry King or Philip Stover shall die before the time when, by
the laws od the United States,
he may become a citizen thereof, nothing in this proviso contained
shall prevent him from transmitting
or transferring his said property by descent or devise to any issue
he may leave residing within
the United States, who is hereby declared capable in law to hold the
same, or to any other person,
being a citizen of the United States, and capable in law to hold the
same. |

CHAP. XXXVII.

An ACT for the relief
of Samuel Couden, of Cæcil county.
WHEREAS Samuel Couden, of Cæcil county, emigrated to, and settled
in, this state, and
since his emigration and settlement as aforesaid has acquired real property
therein, and his
title to such property, from his not having become naturalized agreeably
to the laws of the United
States, may be called in question, to his great detriment and injury; therefore,
II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the title to all the real property,
lawfully and fairly acquired by the aforesaid Samuel Couden, whether
such title be derived by gift,
grant, purchase or devise, be and the same is hereby as amply and as fully
vested in Samuel Couden
aforesaid, to all intents and purposes, as if he had been naturalized agreeably
to said laws; provided
always, that nothing in this act contained shall in any manner defeat or
affect any right, title or
claim, to the said property, or any part thereof, acquired or prosecuted
by any person or persons
whatever before the passage of this act; and provided also, that unless
the said Samuel Couden shall,
on or before the first day of June next, proceed according to law to make
himself a citizen of the

CHAP. XXXVIII.

An ACT to pay the civil list, and other expences of civil government.
WHEREAS those who dedicate their time, abilities and labour, to the
public, ought to receive
a reasonable and adequate compensation for their services,
II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the following officers of civil government
for the time being shall be entitled to receive at the rate of the following
salaries, in current
money, for the ensuing year, to wit: The treasurer of the western
shore two thousand dollars,
the treasurer of the eastern shore four hundred and fifty dollars, the
auditor eight hundred dollars,
the clerk of the council, eight hundred dollars, the clerk of the senate
one hundred and fifty dollars, |
