Sum^rsett County Ss The Juro^rs: for the R^t: hono^ble: the Lord prop^ry: at a grand Jury held the 13^th:
March last past being Sworne upon the holly Evangelist doe present John Pope of this County
planter and doe find that the said John Pope lay under the bonds of the behavio^r: by recog-
Taken the Ninth day of November last past for the said pope in the full & just Sume of five
pounds sterling Money of England & Henry Myles of the same County in the Sume of fifty
Shillings Sterl: like Money of England & George Russell in the like Sume of fifty Shillings
Sterl: that the said Pope should be of the good Abearing to all his Lordpps good people
This province as appears fully upon Record but the said pope little regarding his said
Recognizance or haveing Any feare of God before his Eyes upon the 19^th: day of January
Last did violently assault batter& bruise Manibus & pugnis Thomas Purnall of the
County at the house of Henry Hall & to agravatt his Contempt of his Lordpps Laws & p(eace)
and Authority did assault batter & bruise Richard Holland Constable of Mattapanney
Hundred in the execution of his office & Comanding of his Lordpps peace whereby the
said Recognizance of five pounds Sterl: is become forfeited to his Lordpp & in Abuse of th(omas)
Purnell & his Lordpps Attourny craves Judgment for the same as alsoe what the Law
Allowes for Stricking the Constable in Execuon of his office &^a: Ja: Sangster Cl. Ind^y
Whereupon Came John pope aforesaid & made his personall appearance & pleads
not guilty & for his Treyall put his upon God & the Country upon which Comand was
given to the sheriff of this County to Cause to Come here Twelve good & Lawfull men of his
Bayliwick by whome the Truth of the Matter might bee the better known & the
Evidences for the Right hono^ble: the Lord prop^ry: against the said John Pope
