Somm^rSett: Ss: John Richards of this County was summoned to anSw^r unto Anne Ackworth in a plea of Debt
And Whereupon y said Anne by her attorney Thomas Poole Saith y^t hee y said John became indebted
unto her y said Anne in y summe of Twelve hundred pounds of good sound merchantable tobacco & Casqe as
by a certaine writeing under y hand & Seale of him y said Richards here in Co^rt produced will more plainely appeare
bearing Date y 3^d Day of May A^o:Do^m: 1676: wherein y said Richards Did assume upon himselfe & promise
to pay unto her y said Anne y aforementioned summ of 1200^lb of tobacco next ensueing y Date of y said writeing &
for y performance thereof bindes himselfe his heires executo^rs: or adm^rs but he the said Richards little regarding
his promise & assumptcon fraudulently intending her y said Anne to Deceive of y aforesaid Summ of 1200^lb of
Tobacco Denyeth & Still Doth deny to pay y same allthough often thereunto required y pl^t: saith Shee is Damni
fied & hath Dammadge to y value of Two thousand four hundred pounds of Tobacco & thereupon brings her
