Questions and Answers
(Republican Politics)

Q. Governor, do you plan to attend the Rockefeller rally in Balti-
more?

A. I don't plan to attend the rally because of another engagement
at that time. I do expect to meet Governor Rockefeller when he
comes in and to attend, of course, the meeting with the Maryland
delegation — at least part of that meeting.

Q. Governor, have you decided yet which of the Republican nomi-
nees you might support?

A. Not yet.

Q. Have you decided when you will make your announcement?

A. Not yet.

Q. Regarding that meeting with the delegates on the eighteenth:
is there anything likely of significance to come out of that?

A. I don't believe that it's likely to happen at that time. I am sure
that there'll be some further discussion with the individual Maryland
delegates and I think subsequent to my meeting with them I expect
that at Cincinnati there will be some further discussions among the
governors. So I don't believe that there will be anything definite
come out before Cincinnati.

Q. Governor, what is your reaction in regards to the recent poll
that the Maryland delegates favor Rockefeller?

A. Well, I don't know — I didn't see the poll. I simply thought it
was an indication of someone's opinion. I don't think it was a poll,
if I am correct in my assumption of what I read in the article; and
I think our delegation is honestly committed to my candidacy as a
Favorite Son for the simple purpose of remaining flexible for the
time being. Of course everyone knows I am not a serious candidate
for the Presidency, but it is a device to hold the delegation in a
flexible posture, and I want to point out again that it was their sug-
gestion that this device be used and not mine.

Q. Governor, it's been suggested in some quarters that you are
waiting too long —

A. I think I have heard that about somebody else.

Q. How do you feel about that?

A. Well I guess political timing is a question you tan get a lot of
