FREDERICK ABSOLUTE LORD AND PROPRIETOR OF
SEAL THE PROVINCES OF MARYLAND AND AVALON IN AMER-
ICA LORD BARON OF BALTIMORE IN THE KINGDOM OF
IRELAND
Orders and Instructions to be observed and pursued by Our
Trusty and beloved Horatio Sharpe Esq.r Our Lieutenant General
and Chief Governor of Our Province of Maryland.

You having Signified the Death of Philip Key Esq.r one of the
Members of my Provincial Council, I do accept and approve, and
You are hereby to fill up that Vacancy in Our Council by Placing
James Holliday Esq.r of our East Shore in our Council, being a
Person you Recommend in every respect Qualified And a True Liege
Subject to his Majesty on the Throne: therefore, You here have
my approbation and Consent, and You are to appoint him the said
James Holliday as of good Credit from You, to be of Our Council
accordingly.
Given under my Hand and Lesser Seal at arms at London this
Sixteenth day of January in the fourteenth Year of my Dominion of
the said Province And in the Year of Our Lord 1765

FEBRUARY 26, 1765, TO GOVERNOR SHARPE APPOINTING
COLONEL HOOPER, LATE SPEAKER OF THE LOWER HOUSE,
TO THE VACANCY IN THE COUNCIL [AND THEREFOR TO THE
UPPER HOUSE], CAUSED BY THE DEATH OF STEPHEN
BORDLEY ESQ., LATE OF THE COUNCIL AND COMMISSARY
GENERAL; AND APPOINTING CHARLES GOLDSBOROUGH ESQ.
TO BE COMMISSARY GENERAL. HE CONFIRMS ALL CHURCH
BENEFICES AND ALL OTHER PROVINCIAL PREFERMENTS AND
OFFICES LAWFULLY GIVEN BY SHARPE UNDER AUTHORITY
GRANTED TO HIM BY FREDERICK'S UNCLE CECILIUS CAL-
VERT, SECRETARY OF MARYLAND IN ENGLAND, ON HIS
BEHALF, WHEN FREDERICK WAS ABSENT FROM ENG-
LAND. THESE SAME INSTRUCTIONS, WITH A FEW DIFFER-
ENCES IN WORDING, ARE ALSO TO BE FOUND IN BLACK
