to Elk; on that Consideration, and the Demands of the Soldiery for
Provisions, we desired him to deliver the Beef to John Crisall the
Issuing Commissary at this Post. We understand that Philip Casson
Commissary of Caroline County, has a large Quantity of Salt be-
longing to the Public; we would have you apply to him, if it can be
conveyed to you with any Degree of Convenience; if not to be pro-
cured from him, and the red Money will not pass as Specie, you must
dispose of as much Wheat and Flour as will furnish you with Salt
and also Barrels Sufficient for the Pork you may receive. You will
find, by Mr Crisall's Receipts to Capt. Handy, that there is a Defi-
ciency of 8,709lbs

Thomas Grason two thousand, two hundred and forty eight pounds
of flour and one thousand three hundred and ninety rations of Meat
due him per Account passed by the Aud. General. —

Monday 31th December 1781.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Clement Holliday
Esqr one hundred and fifty pounds of the Bills emitted under the
Act for the Emission of Bills of Credit &ca of the money appropri-
ated for the Defence of the State on Account
That the said Treasurer pay to Hannah May, Catharine Dunnagan,
Alice Redman, and Mary Darling each twenty shillings and to Mary
Connolly two pounds of the same Emission of the money approd for
the prest Campaign due them per Acct passed by the Depy Aud. —
That the said Treasurer pay to Lieut John Boone, six pounds, nine
shillings of the same Emission of the money aforesaid for Stores on
Account
Agreement made with Colo Moses Rawlings Contractor for sup-
plying the prisoners and Guards in Frederick Town — Colo Rawlings
contracts and engages to pay to the State of Maryland in specie only,
four pence p pound for all the Beef in Frederick and Washington
Counties belonging to the public, the nett weight of the Beef on the
hoof to be estimated and adding thereto, one forth for the fifth
Quarter and to pay the price of the Salt for the Beef that is salted,
the State not to be at any expence for the transportation thereof &
twelve shillings and six pence p O for six hundred barrels of Flour
manufactured agreeable to the late supply Bill to be delivered at Fred-
erick Town, the barrels to be returned in good order to Colo Price
or to pay the currt price of them — two hundred & fifty pounds ten
shillings paid down and the residue the 15th of February next. —
