[Council to Jeremiah Jordan Esqr]

We request you will be pleased to inform us what Gentlemen of
your County have qualified as Magistrates, under the last Commis-
sion, and who have qualified on the Orphan's Court. We understand
many People are suffering for Want of an Orphan's Court, and we
are therefore desirous of appointing other Gentlemen immediately,

in the Room of those who may not choose to qualify.

Monday 1st July 1782

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Lieut Isaac
Hanson eight Pounds, twelve shillings of the Bills emitted under the
Act for the Emission of Bills of Credit &ca for Stores to the Ist
Instant on Account.
That the said Treasurer pay to John Baker fifteen Pounds and
nine Pence of the same Emission due him per Account passed.
That the said Treasurer pay to Thomas Beatty two hundred and
forty two Pounds fifteen shillings and nine pence of the same Emis-
sion due on a Certificate issued agreeable to the Act to adjust the
Debts due from this State and also three Pounds, three shillings and
four pence of the same Emission for the use of John Miller per
Account passed.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Christiana Ennis
the wife of John Ennis a soldier in the 2d Maryland Regiment who
was wounded & taken at the Battle of Camden as appears by a Letter
from General Smallwood to the Orphans Court of Ann Arundel
County seven Pounds, ten shillings of the Bills emitted under the
Act for the Emission of Bills of Credit &ca as Subsistance, there
being no application to be made to the Orphans Court of St Marys
County at present to which County her Husband belonged and to
be deducted out of the Allowance hereafter to be made by the Court.

[Council to Colo Philip Thomas]

We are informed by Majr Baily that he is left almost destitute of a
Guard over the British Prisoners. General Smallwood has engaged
to send up the Invalids of the Regular Troops for this Service, and
a Detachment of them will march in a few Days; in the mean Time
we request you to order out a sufficient Guard from the Militia, of
those that can be the most expeditiously collected.
