[George Dashiell, Somerset County to His Excellency

Sir I embrace the oppertunity to inform you that we have not
been able to recruit our compliment of men agreeable to the direc-
tions of the State Law we have enlisted ten only and apprehended
three Deserters belonging to the Delaware State. In consequence
of which fifty two Militia men is ordered out to supply the vacancy.
In case the whole or any part of them should March we are at a
loss in what manner to order out the officers to command them,
as the rank is unsettled and request the favour of your Excellency
to advise me what method we are to pursue. I wrote you in my last
relative to my purchase of Corn, and shall thank you to inform
me how I am to proceed with those persons who alledge they have
it not in their power to comply with their contracts. My constant
attendance on publick business since the receipt of your favr by Doct.
Winder has Prevented my making you a return of the Arms Am-
munition &c. I expect to have it in my power in a few days to com-
ply with your request.

[Tho. Richardson, Com'y, Georgetown, to His Excellency,
Thomas Sim Lee, Esqr.]

Sir I am under the necessity of requesting that you would send
me by return of Post some blank Certificates.
Wheat begins to come in fast & were it Possible to supply me
with Cash I should doubtless make a pretty good Purchase, I
should have Requested another order on the Sheriff but he has not
been able to pay fully the one I have & he informs me it will answer
no purpose to get any more as he receives so little money in his
collection that he has no Prospect of paying them, the people from
whom I have recd Wheat are exceedingly pressing for money & I
have encourag'd them all to expect it very soon, must therefore
request you to inform me when I may be able to get a Supply from
the Treasury, that I may come for it,
