The Welfare and common Security of the province demand our
utmost attention, and we shall, in the Course of our Deliberations,
consider what may be most Conducive to the publick Good, and
promote it in Every Respect accordingly; nor are we without hopes
of succeeding therein, from the kind assurance you have been
pleased to give us, of your Sincere Inclinations to advance the hap-
piness and prosperity of the province, and of making it your Con-
stant Rule never to propose any thing to us as Governor, that you
shall not think for the Good of the Country as a planter.
Was brought in Ingrossed, and was Read and assented to, and
Signed by Order of the House, by the Honourable Speaker.
Col. King and Mr Stoddert, were sent to acquaint his Excellency,
this House hath prepared an Address to him, and desires to know
when and where he will please to Receive it; they return and ac-
quaint Mr Speaker, the Governor Signified his pleasure to Receive
the Address in the Conference Chamber.
It appearing to the House, that William Stoughton Esqr since his
being Elected a member of Somerset County, hath accepted of the
Office of Deputy Naval Officer of Pocomoke, under Samuel Cham-
berlaine Esqr
Resolved, That his acceptance of such Office, hath disqualified
him from his present seat in this House, and that he be discharged
from further Attendance; with which Mr Speaker acquainted him
accordingly.
Ordered, That Mr Speaker Issue his warrant to the Secretary of
this province, to make out a new Writ of Election, directed to the
Sheriff of Somerset County, in the usual manner, to make Choice of
a Delegate to serve in this present Assembly for the said County, in
the Room of the said William Stoughton.
Col. King and Twelve more, were sent to present the Address to
the Governor.
On Motion of a Member, that a Bill may be brought in for Regu-
lation of Officers ffees, within this province, Leave is given; Ordered
that the Committee of Laws prepare and bring in the same ac-
cordingly.
On Motion of a Member, that a Bill may be brought in for Trial
of all matters of fact in the several Countys where they have arisen,
or shall arise; Leave is given: Ordered, That the Committee of
Laws prepare and bring in the same accordingly.
