On the behalf of her most Sacred Majesty Anne Queen of
England &ca I will this be a Law.

An Act Impowering a Committee to lay assess and apportion
the publick Leavy of this province for this present year
One thousand Seven hundred and five.

Whereas this present Generall Assembly have for the de-
fraying the Publick charge of this province to the twenty third
day of May one thousand seven hnndred and five raised a
certaine Sume of tobacco and mony amounting to the Sume
of two hundred thirty six thousand Six hundred forty seven

pounds of tobacco and two hundred Sixty seven pounds
Seventeen Shillings and nine Pence half penny in mony But
by reason more publick charges may arise and grow due
before the tenth day of October next which is the usuall and
accustomed time of Payment at which time againe to call &
convene the whole Assembly for that Occasion only consider-
ing the great Number of them and the remoteness of their
habitations from the place appointed would be very chargea-
ble and troublesom to the whole Province in generall for
prevention whereof —
Be it Enacted by the Queens most Excellent Majty by and
with the advice and consent of her Majesty's Governour
Councill and Assembly of this Province and the Authority
of the same that one Burgess or delegate out of Each county
and one out of the city of Saint Maries be and are hereby
Authorized and appointed a committee to Joyne with some
of her Majesties honble Councill to lay and equally assess the
said Publick Levy of this Province (that is to say) of her
Majties honourable Councill Thomas Tench Esqr Colo John
Hammond Lievt Col William Holland and James Sanders
Esqrs And of the house of Delegates Col. Thomas Smyth
Speaker Mr George Muschamp Mr William Watts Mr Charles
Greenberry Mr Robert Skinner Mr John Contee Mr Edward
Dorsey Mr John Macclaster Mr Robert Gouldesborough Mr
Thomas Frisby Mr John Taylor and Mr Thos Greenfield or
