38 Assembly Proceedings, April 26-May 9, 1700.

P. R. O.

Province, its the uniteing the People, the keeping men good
and deterring them from Comitting rapines of all degrees
upon each other; much may be said upon this subject which
is not soe proper here and not being my tallent neither is it
necessary where I am morrally assured those persons to whom
I apply are soe well inclined and are soe good Judges of the
fatall consequences would attend us in the loss of that good
Law.
Gent I shall not here Enumerate what other Affaires we
are to concert this Sessions of Assembly but will leave you
to proceed in the usuall way of conferrence and message being
ready to Joyne with you wherein we may promote his Majts
Service on which depends the good of this Province
Wch being ended his Excy was Pleased to deliver to Mr

Speaker a Coppy thereof And Wm Taylor haveing taken
the Oaths of Allegiance and Abhorrency was thereupon
admitted and Sworne Clk of this house at the Councill Board.
Mr Speaker and the house haveing taken their leaves
returne to the house and Mr Speaker haveing taken the
Chaire
It is ordered that the Clerk deliver Warrts for ye Writts of
Election to the Honoble Secretary
It is desired by the house that Mr Speaker prepare an
Answer to the Excys Speech agt to morrow morning
The house adjournes till to morrow morning na Clock

Dies Saturnij 27 Aprill 1700

The house mett againe and were prsent as before with the
addicon of Capt Jno Worthington for Ann Arrundell County
who made his appearance
Mr Speaker brings into the house the Answer to the Excys
Speech wch was desired by him to be prepared & wch was read
and followeth vizt

May it Please yor Excy
We have observed the progress of yor Excys Governmt and
Gratefully acknowledge yor sincere endeavors for the good
of his Majts Leige people in this Province and without any
Jealousys assure ourselves the Same for the future
We are extremely sattisfied to have yor Excy acknowledge
our Accons in the last Sessions to have been to yor Sattisfac-

tion: wee assure yor Excy wee are come againe with the same
candid and honest resolucon inviolably to maintaine the same
good agreement and right understanding which hath hitherto
been betwixt us and confess have had Convinceing proofes of
