338 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1678-1679.
Lib. R. humbly pray your Lspp: that if it be your Lspps: pleasure to
grant the said Ellis Humphryes his pardon that your Lspp: will
be pleased to take such care to protect us from the wrong
and injury that may accrue unto us by his being placed
amongst us againe as shall seeme most fitt and convenient by
your Lspp: Your Lspps. most humble Servtts

Michael Miller Sheriff of Kent County informes this board
from the Comissionrs of the said County, (as he alledges) that
Major Joseph Wicks haveing taken Recognizance of Ellis
Humphryes in the summe of One Thousand pounds of
tobacco to the Rt honble the Lord Propry for conservation of
the peace at the suite and procuremt of John Chandler whose
house he had threatned to sett on fire did at the County
Court table of his owne free voluntary will and accord without
the advice consent or approbation of any of the rest of the Com-
missioners or ordr of Court deliver up the said Recognizance to
the said Humphryes, And that the said Wicks had often
declared in publick that if Ever the said Ellis should apply
himself to him he would harbour and protect him in despight
of any one.
At the same time produced to this board and read the
following Peticon. of Sarah Townesend to the honble Philip
Calvert Esqr Chancelor viz

To the honble Philip Calvert Esqr Chiefe Judge for probate
of Wills and granting Administrations
The humble Peticon of Sarah Townesend in most humble
manner
Sheweth

p. 164 That one Richard Lee late of Kent County decd: did make
a Deed of Gift or Instrumt in his life time under his hand-
writeing as by the sd Deed will appeare, wherein he seemed
to bestow what Estate he might have left upon your Peticoner
after his decease, but your Petr being sick & soe weake that
she could not rise when sett or scarce lift her hands to her
mouth to feed herselfe was forced to employ Mr James Boullay
to procure Administration upon promise of giveing him a
hhd. of tobacco for doeing thereof but his not goeing downe
