294 Journal and Correspondence

C. S. C.

No. 186.

[Council to Rumsey.]

To Colo Benjamin Rumsey
Sir. We received your letter by the Post and observe
what is said about the expenditure of the three hundred
pounds formerly sent the Committee of Harford. We need
say nothing in answer to that at present, nor to what you say
about the Committee of Observation refusing to act; with
regard to arms and blankets in Harford, we are willing that
the Compy which is first ready in your County should have
them [we expect it will be from your Battalion, but if other-
wise the first ready must have them] for their encouragement.
We have given Mr Steele the Bounty Money and one months
pay, for a Company to be raised according to yr letter of
recommendation on Saturday last. We shall hereafter
advance for another Company when we receive the recom-
mendations.
We have heretofore wrote you about attending the Council
of Safety to which you have given no answer, from whence
we conclude you have not received it — the Convention would
not proceed to any new Appointment only in the room of Mr
Hands who declined — pray let us have your personal attend-
ance here for two or three weeks as soon as you can, at
furthest by the first of next week.
P. S. Get Linen for Tents if you can procure any upon
reasonable Terms. You are as good a judge of the Price as
we are.

No. 187.

[Council to A. Hall.]

To Colo Aquila Hall
Sirs;
We send you the Bounty and advance money for Capt
Francis Holland's Company; Colo Rumsey wrote this day
about the guns and blankets collected in your County, for the
Public; our answer was that the Company first ready must
have them, by way of encouragement to exert themselves.
Mr Ray's order on the Treasury was for the sum of four hun-
dred and twenty nine Pounds Curry.

[Hollingsworth to Council.]

Sirs. I understand your going to strip the Schooner Reso-
lution, I dont pretend to direct you, but think shee had best
bee loded with bread which you now have ready and sent to
some market whare it mout be sold to advantage, and loded
